Future Screens: Future Screens

Future Screens cover art

Future Screens has reworked their debut EP (previously reviewed) into a self-titled debut EP from this Brooklyn synthpop band.  This seems to be a late summer for great debut records and Future Screens is another one. This is a band that has honed their craft, delivering an album that is mature, well written, flawlessly performed and crisply produced. Future Screens will instantly sound familiar, but yet is not overly derivative. Backed with R&B tinged stylings and retro 80's synth vibe, Future Screens is both totally today and successful by every musical measure. This is a band that is destined for much bigger things. Get in on the ground floor. Stream and buy Future Screens at the link below.

Tones: Grassysweater

grassysweater cover art

Grassysweater is the debut EP from San Antonio electronic artist Tones. The three tracks are glitchy, catchy and all the other y's one can think of. Lo-fi production textures tie together elements from ambient, freak folk and synthpop into a nice sonic mix.  Tones is on the fringe rather than the lamestream, preferring a unique and unexpected aesthetic rather than commercial hooks and radio ready sounds. Stream and download Grassysweater at the link below.

New Hands: Whichever Way You'll Have It

Whichever Way You'll Have It cover art

Whichever Way You'll Have It is the new single from Hamilton, Ontario band New Hands. If a single track is all you offer, it should really sound like this one. Epic, commercial, masterfully written and produced, Whichever Way You'll Have It is one of those rare perfect tracks that has it all. This then begs the question of why not more. In the last year New Hands has had a total output of just two tracks . For a band this good, they really need to focus on a proper release so there is more to hang on to. Come on guys, we love what we hear, so give us more. Stream and download Whichever Way You'll Have It for free at the link below.

The Rest: Hey! For Horses Video

The Rest deliver the best and most unique video, for their track Hey! For Horses, that I've seen in a long time. Murderous horses and fornicating puppets, who could ask for more. Watch it below.

Stagnant Pools: Termporary Room

Temporary Room cover art

Temporary Room is the debut album from Indianapolis duo Stagnant Pools. Comprised of brothers Bryan and Douglass Enas, Stagnant Pools blend art rock with post-punk to deliver an album that shares a sonic vibe with Roxy Music and Joy Division. Sparse and hard edged, the twelve tracks occupy a space more ragged than the afore mentioned bands, showing Stagnant Pools willingness to not play it safe. Again we have a debut of rare merit from a band that has the future ahead of them. Stream and buy Temporary Room at the link below.

The Shepard Tone cover art

Today marks the release of The Shepard Tone from Australian electonic duo and FZB favorite Electrocado, aka Bill Day and Ryan Whare. The six tracks on this EP were inspired by the duo's American tour and according to them  "this EP was essentially our response to and interpretation of the American glitch hop/crunk circuit." The EP retains Electrocado's distinct vibe and again showcases their mastery of House and Dubstep. This is another great electronic work from the downunder duo.
